The AC24 / R converter converts the actual RMS value of a measured AC signal into a unified DC signal. There is a measuring transformer at the input of the current converter. It isolates the measured input circuit and converts the input signal into a suitable voltage for further processing. After bidirectional rectification, calculating the RMS value and filtering the signal, an output DC signal is created on the output of the converter. The voltage output is isolated using an optocoupler. RMS value calculation is performed in an Analog Devices monolithic converter. The input and output circuits are protected against overload.

The AC24 / R converter is also suitable for processing heavily distorted waveforms of the input signal. It can be used even if there are frequency converters or other non-linear control elements in the system. When measuring signal waveforms distorted by mean value converters, errors can reach tens of percent. The following table shows the difference between the measurement of the mean signal value and the RMS value for various distorted waveforms.
