PTC temperature sensors

Positive coefficient thermistors for reliable and gradual thermal monitoring in industrial and safety applications.
What is a PTC sensor ?
A PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) sensor is a thermistor whose resistance increases with temperature. Unlike NTC sensors, PTCs react more slowly but offer a more gradual and controlled change in resistance.
Most PTC sensors are made from doped ceramics or silicon (sillistors). They are particularly valued for their stability, electrical robustness, and ability to function as automatic thermal switches.

✽ What PTC Offer
Discover the main four benefits
Automatic thermal protection
PTCs are perfect for limiting current or cutting a circuit in case of overheating. They act as passive thermal switches without additional electronics.
Easy integration into industrial systems
Available in standard or SMD packages, PTC sensors easily integrate into motors, transformers, power boards, or embedded equipment.
Stable and predictable operation
Thanks to their gradual or sudden resistance increase depending on the type, they offer reproducible thermal behavior, ideal for protection or regulation.
Low cost and long lifespan
Robust and reliable, PTCs require little to no maintenance and offer an economical solution, even for demanding environments.

Frequently asked questions
Here are some common questions about our PTCs.
There are two main families of PTC sensors with distinct behaviors and uses :
1. PTC Measurement Sensor
Generally based on silicon resistors, this type of sensor has a linear positive temperature coefficient, around +0.77%/°C over its operating range.
It is used for:
- Temperature measurement in electronic systems
- Thermal compensation in power circuits
2. PTC Thermal Protection Sensor
Made from doped polycrystalline ceramic (notably barium titanate - BaTiO₃), this sensor functions as a threshold detector.
When the temperature approaches the Curie point, its resistance increases sharply, limiting current or triggering a shutdown.
Common uses include :
- Overload protection
- Self-regulating heating
- Soft start of motors or lighting
- Overheat detection in transformers or industrial equipment
PTC measurement sensors are often encapsulated in glass, with silicon elements similar to KTY84, KTY83, KTY81 references, available with standard resistances like 600 Ω, 1000 Ω, 2000 Ω (R25).
They offer a linear increase in resistance with temperature, making them suitable for critical systems :
- motors,
- electric drives,
- industrial automation.
Silicon ensures high stability, long lifespan, and integrated safety behavior in case of overheating.
