These are wired temperature sensors protected by heat shrink tubing. 

These sensors are distinguished by their high electrical resistance. We offer PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) probes made in accordance with DIN VDE V098-1-401 standards. They consist of resistors based on semiconductor materials. Thus, their level of electrical resistance increases as the temperature exceeds the nominal operating value (this is the threshold effect).

What are winding and winding probes used for?

Winding and winding probes are used in electronics and electrical engineering. 

Their most common application is the measurement of temperature in the windings of electric motors and transformers. They can also be used for protection against winding overloads, monitoring and limiting temperature regulation in measurement techniques or controlling the temperature of power semiconductors, bearings of rotating machines, etc.

How to position the probes for motor control?

For three-phase motors, here are some recommendations: 

It is preferable to implant the leads before winding. Moreover, we advise you to leave a space in the middle of the winding head in order to deposit the temperature sensor. 

Each winding must be equipped with a probe, to be placed at the level of the hottest point (generally opposite the fan). As such, good thermal contact between the two is required. To do this, do not hesitate to squeeze the winding wires. 

Connect the connecting wires to the free terminals. 

There must be parallelism between the conductors of the probe and the wires of the winding

In the event of overheating, the motor will be disconnected from the mains. It will be connected to it again when it cools down. 

Good to know: For test procedures, the measurement voltage must not exceed 2,5V direct current. Beyond that, there is a risk of overheating the sensor.
